Generally, we strongly encourage all interested students to submit on or before the priority date. Thus, begin preparing your application materials well before the priority due date!
In preparing your application, we recommend students carefully attend to the guidelines for the written statement and note potential faculty members or labs you would be interested in working with when describing your interest in the general clinical PhD program. Your submitted written statement should reflect a) the areas of psychology in which you are interested; b) your career & educational goals immediately upon completion of the PhD degree program; c) any career-relevant experience you have had (e.g., instructional, research, computer skills, counseling, animal care, etc.).
APA's Tips on Preparing Personal Statements
It is often helpful to review individual faculty and lab webpages to get a sense of ongoing research in the lab and any specific criteria they may consider when reviewing applications with their lab. However, as mentioned above, it is important to note that the Psychology Department uses an admissions committee to review all applications rather than an individual faculty review procedure. A list of faculty who are accepting graduate students is updated on our webpage each cycle.
