Why this minor is important

The Accountancy and Business Law minor provides non-CSB majors with a foundation of financial and legal knowledge that can be applied in a business in their chosen field of study. This background helps position students for growth in management positions in their field.

Curriculum Overview

The minor core curriculum (16 hours) provides a strong foundation for maintaining financial records, utilizing financial information for managerial decision-making, and understanding the legal environment of business.

The minor elective course (3 hours) allows students to explore either (1) the income tax implications of personal and business decisions, or (2) the commercial legal environment, including topics such as contracts, sales and warranties, and debtor and creditor rights.

The six core courses (16 hours) are:

  • ACG 201 – Financial Accounting (3 hours)
  • ACGL 201 – Financial Accounting Lab (1 hour)
  • ACG 203 – Managerial Accounting (3 hours)
  • ACG 301 – External Financial Reporting I (3 hours)
  • ACG 306 – Accounting Information Systems (3 hours)
  • BLA 361 – Legal Environment of Business (3 hours)

Students also choose one of the two elective courses:

  • ACG 404 – Federal Income Taxes (3 hours), or
  • BLA 461 – Commercial Law (3 hours)

    Minor in Business Administration 

    This minor provides students with an overview of business skills and knowledge. Students can take this background of business with them to enhance any career path. The Business Minor is open to all non-business majors. To earn a minor in business requires completion of 19 hours, including 7 hours of core courses and 12 hours of electives, with a minimum of 6 hours at the 300 level. Students must earn a C- or above in all classes in the minor.
