Applicants who are proficient in at least two languages have a distinct advantage in the global market.

Travel Far and Wide

French majors are encouraged to take advantage of one of UNCW's study abroad programs.

Students can travel throughout the French-speaking world, including to programs in France (Paris, Cannes and Marseille, for example), Quebec and Senegal.

The curriculum in French and Francophone Studies reflects the fact that French is spoken by more than 300 million people in more than 29 countries across five continents.

Requirements for a Major in French

There are no requirements to be admitted to the French major, but French 101 and French 102 (or the equivalent) are prerequisites to French 201, which is the lowest-level course to count toward the major.
