Gerontology Minor

The Study of Older Adults and the Aging Process
Gerontology Minor Program Overview

Interdisciplinary Minor

The minor draws faculty from a variety of disciplines, such as sociology, psychology, public health, recreation therapy, gerontology, and social work. It is designed for students with a general interest in aging and will help prepare them for careers that involve working with older adults.

Coursework encourages students to obtain field experience in local agencies serving older adults. Students should contact the coordinator for additional information.

Graduates of this program may find careers as:

Professionals who speak and advocate for clients such as a customer, a victim, a child or a patient. 

Provide medical care or treatment.

Lead, instruct, and motivate individuals or groups in exercise activities, including cardiovascular workouts, strength training, and stretching. (Source)

Responsible for supervising the clinical and administrative affairs of nursing homes and related facilities. (Source)

Improve the quality of life and promote the well-being of people as they age through research. (Source)

Assist clients to develop skills, knowledge, and behaviors for daily living and community involvement. (Source)

How Do I Apply for Gerontology Minor?

No application required. A “C” (2.00) or better average is required in all courses counted toward the minor.

Students should contact the director for a list of current designated courses.
