What kind of job can I get with this degree?
This degree is designed to prepare the student to become a Certified Athletic Trainer. Certified Athletic Trainers are health care professionals who specialize in preventing, recognizing, managing and rehabilitating injuries that result from physical activity.
As part of a complete health care team, the Certified Athletic Trainer works under the direction of a licensed physician and in cooperation with other health care professionals, athletics administrators, coaches and parents.
When does the program start?
Applications are accepted until April 15 of each year. The program starts during Summer II session each year. Applications are only accepted one time per year.
Do I need to have my CPR and First Aid complete prior to application?
Yes, CPR with AED training and First Aid must be completed prior to application. Applicants must include a photocopy of the CPR and First Aid cards with the application.
Do I need both Adult and Infant CPR or can I just take the adult?
You should take adult, child and infant CPR with AED.
When will I know I got accepted in the program?
Admissions will be completed on a rolling basis. As applications are completed, students will be notified if they will be given an electronic interview. Typically, programmatic admissions decisions will be made within one week following the interview. University admissions will follow a separate procedure.
If I apply this year and don't make it into the program can I reapply next year?
Yes. However, you will need to complete a new application.
How many students will you accept into the program?
We accept approximately 12 students each year depending on the quality of the candidate pool.
Are any of the core classes online?
This is an entirely residential program. No classes will be offered online.
When can I apply for the Athletic Training Program?
Students may begin applying in August of each year. Applications are accepted through April 15. Students must be admitted to UNCW prior to applying to the program.
How long is the Program once I am admitted?
The program is two years in length, including summers.
What days will I be in class?
Our students have classes daily in the morning and clinical experiences in the afternoons and evenings. The Athletic Training Program utilizes an alternative calendar that may not match the main-campus calendar.
Can I work and be in the program too?
Due to the clinical education component of the Athletic Training Program, it is very difficult to work while in the program. The Athletic Training Program is a full-time program with hours that are often variable and sometimes unpredictable. We advise students not to work if at all possible while in the UNCW Program.
I have full-time job. Can I take classes part-time?
The UNCW Athletic Training Program is a cohort program. The classes run in a particular sequence and you need to matriculate through the program with your cohort.
