Athletic Training, M.S. Details

Coursework for the master’s in athletic training covers nutrition, research methods, pharmacology and pathophysiology, therapeutic exercise and the psychosocial aspects for athletic training.

Academic Curriculum - MS in Athletic Training

General MSAT Degree Requirements

A total of sixty (60) graduate credit hours are required for the Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) degree. Twelve (12) of these hours will be in Clinical Practicum, where students will complete at least 1,000 hours of clinical education under the supervision of an approved Preceptor. All graduate study must be completed in residence.

An MSAT student must have a “B-” or better in each required course. If a student earns a “C” or below, he/she must repeat the course and must earn a “B-” or better to progress. This will delay matriculation for one academic year. A student will only be allowed to repeat one course. A student must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

The program has no language requirement.

  • ATR 512 Documentation in Athletic Training (1 hr)
  • ATR 515 Anatomical Basis of Clinical Practice in Athletic Training (3 hrs)

  • ATR 501 Clinical Practicum I (2 hrs)
  • ATR 520 Physical Examination – I (4 hrs)
  • ATR 530 Therapeutic Modalities (4 hrs)
  • ATR 545 Nutrition and Health Promotion Across the Lifespan (3 hrs)

Total: 13 Credit Hours

  • ATR 502 Clinical Practicum II (2 hrs)
  • ATR 525 Physical Examination II (4 hrs)
  • ATR 535 Therapeutic Exercise (4 hrs)
  • ATR 590 Research Methods and Evidence-Based Medicine (3 hrs)

Total: 13 Credit Hours

  • ATR 503 Clinical Practicum III (4 hrs)
