Through the Professional Development System – our long-standing school-university partnership - Watson collaborates with schools and school districts throughout Southeastern North Carolina to meet the needs of local schools and enhance learning opportunities for students.
Here in Wilmington, we have an active role in the day-to-day management of two schools: D.C. Virgo, a K-8 school opened by UNCW in 2018, and Isaac Bear Early College High School, opened in 2006 in partnership with New Hanover County Schools. Through our partnership with NHCS, we also offer a Transition Program for Young Adults and a Future Teachers Career Academy, both located on the UNCW campus.
UNCW’s Watson College is also home to a Transition Program for Young Adults (TPYA) classroom. The TPYA program, a partnership with New Hanover County Schools, serves 18-21 year old students with special needs.
