Beginning with the Spring 2010 initiation, new initiates will receive a pin and will need to earn honor cords by staying actively involved until graduation.
To earn an honor cord, members are required to attend four KDP events per year, or two per semester from the time of initiation. Events include chapter meetings, service projects, fund raisers, professional development, or other events designated by the chapter officers.
Members are responsible for keeping track of the number of events attended per year on the log. Sign-in sheets are provided at each event to verify attendance.
Because the Jacksonville campus is a significant distance from the UNCW main campus, where most events are held, exceptions will be extended to our Jacksonville students. KDP members officially enrolled on the Jacksonville Extension campus may choose to participate in service projects or professional development in the Jacksonville area.
If these events are to be used toward earning a KDP honor cord, the events must be documented on the log and be submitted with appropriate signatures.
The internship is an unusually busy semester, and requires students to be away from campus much of the semester. Student interns may substitute ONE professional development workshop or seminar from the internship for ONE KDP event.
This substitution is allowed during the internship semester only, and members will still be required to attend at least one official KDP event.
There are scholarships available for undergraduate and graduate students. Special Ed scholarships are available at both levels.
