ESOP EAP + Admission Requirements

UNCW collaborates with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in a shared commitment to train the future healthcare workforce. The two universities created an Early Assurance Program, offering an automatic interview with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy’s Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program admissions committee for qualifying UNCW students. UNCW will verify that interested students meet the participation qualifications identified by the two schools and provide processes and resources to support interested students.

Throughout the program, participating students will be required to meet with a School of Pharmacy advisor at least once each semester prior to joining the School; participate in a program seminar series; and meet pre-requisite coursework/grade requirements. The School of Pharmacy’s admissions committee will be responsible for the final selection and notification of the candidates admitted to the school’s Pharm.D. program.

Prerequisite Coursework

24 or more credit hours completed at UNCW, including 12 or more credit hours of the following prerequisite courses completed prior to application submission.  All attempted prerequisite courses must be passed with a C or higher prior to application submission. The entire list of prerequisite courses must be passed prior to ESOP program matriculation.

UNCW GPA

• 3.0 or higher

Pharmacy Hours

• 10 or more hours of experience comprised of either shadowing a pharmacist or working in a pharmacy.

Essay (2000 characters max)

• Write a short essay that describes why you have selected pharmacy as your career goal. Describe how you have explored pharmacy through your personal, educational, and extracurricular experiences.

Resume

• An updated resume including your UNCW major and expected graduation, GPA, pharmacy shadowing, work, research, campus involvement, healthcare, volunteer, and other experiences. Students are encouraged to visit the UNCW Career Center for feedback prior to submitting.

UNCW Transcript

• A copy of your UNCW transcript ready to upload as a pdf attachment.

Expressed Interest

• UNCW students interested in applying to the ESOP EAP must meet with the UNCW Pre-Health Coordinator Ms. Ashley Auerbach (auerbacha@uncw.edu) each semester leading up to application submission, in addition to the UNC ESOP Admissions Director (student is referred after meeting with Ms. Auerbach).

• Applicants must complete the application in one sitting. It is recommended to have your completed essay and transcript ready to upload when you open the application link. 
• Eligible applicants can expect to interview with ESOP in mid-April 2026.
