University Studiesbooks

In January 2004 UNC Wilmington began a review of the general education "Basic Studies" requirements currently in place, relative to those at other universities. The mission was to create a curriculum that would provide our students with knowledge that will allow them to succeed, not just in their major coursework, but as citizens in the 21st century.

The new University Studies consists of a Core Curriculum, which includes Foundations, Approaches and Perspectives, Thematic Transdisciplinary Clusters, Building Competencies, Explorations Beyond the Classroom, and Capstone Courses.

You can click here to read more about the components and learning outcomes of the new curriculum. You can find a list of approved courses from the UNCW 2012-2013 Undergraduate Catalog here.

Students who will graduate at UNCW under the provisions of a catalogue before Fall 2011 use the Basic Studies curriculum, but are welcome to take any courses listed in the University Studies curriculum.
