The Film Studies Department at the University of North Carolina Wilmington seeks a one-year lecturer, specializing in critical studies, to start in August 2009. The candidate should have a demonstrated expertise in: contemporary world cinema, avant-garde cinema, and the history of animation.
Qualifications: Candidates should possess a PhD in film studies or a related discipline. Strong preference will be given to candidates with a PhD in film studies awarded prior to August 2009. Candidates must be able to teach introductory and advanced courses in film studies, with experience in higher education instruction.
The responsibilities for the position include:
- Teaching four courses per academic semester (fall and spring);
- Appropriate service to the department.
One of the premiere departments at UNCW, Film Studies incorporates courses in cinema studies and film production and is exploring graduate programs in both areas. The historic coastal resort city of Wilmington is home to EUE Screen Gems Studios, the largest motion picture facility east of California, and the department has a vibrant working relationship with both the studio and area filmmaking professionals. Film festivals, visiting scholars and filmmakers, and an assortment of independent and international film screenings are a community staple. For eleven consecutive years, U. S. News & World Report has ranked UNCW as one of the top ten public master’s universities in the South.
