The University of North Carolina at Wilmington seeks a Director for the Women’s Studies and Resource Center. POSITION IS AVAILABLE TO TENURED UNCW FACULTY ONLY.
Vision
The Center is devoted to encouraging women to develop their full potential through research and scholarship on gender, sexuality and women’s issues; coordinating an academic area of women’s studies; promoting women’s issues in campus life; and partnering in educational/cultural programs.
The Center also serves as the source for information about women’s issues and initiatives at UNCW.
Mission
The Women’s Studies and Resource Center engages an interdisciplinary community of scholars, students, and advocates working in gender, sexuality and women’s studies. The Center promotes gender equality both locally and globally, through research support, programming, an academic minor and community engagement. Finally the Center provides physical space for gathering resources, and referrals for the UNCW and Wilmington communities.
Responsibilities include
- administering the Women’s Studies and Resource Center
- developing a research agenda and research projects about women’s issues
- overseeing the Women’s Studies minor
- teaching one course per semester
- implementing educational/cultural programs that promote women’s issues
- collaborating with other women’s programs at UNCW and the region
- working with the Center’s advisory board
Reporting line
The Director reports directly to the Associate Provost for Diversity and Inclusion. The Director collaborates with the Women’s Advisory Board and also updates the UNCW Diversity Council on the Women’s Studies and Resource Center at least once a semester.
Salary
Salary will be commensurate with rank and experience.
Minimum qualifications include
- tenure in an academic department at UNCW,
- demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity,
- record of working on women’s issues,
- excellent communication, interpersonal relations, and administration skills.
Preferred qualifications include
experience in teaching courses focused on women’s or gender issues and grant activity
