Announces the Position of Assistant Professor/Wind Symphony Director

Tenure track Assistant Professor position to begin August 2010. Salary is commensurate with Assistant Professor rank.

Qualifications:       Doctorate required (ABD considered).  Demonstrated musical and organizational skills appropriate to organize, recruit for and conduct wind/band ensembles.  A music education background or evidence of success as a director/teacher with public school and/or collegiate experience is preferred.

Responsibilities:    Duties include directing the Wind Symphony and applied teaching (brass or woodwind preferred).  Additional duties depend on the candidate’s area of expertise and department needs and may include Pep Band (with stipend), instrumental pedagogy, conducting class, or basic studies classes.  An active performer with outstanding ability to teach and play classical and jazz styles is desirable.  Recruiting is essential and should include guest conducting, workshops and summer camps, adjudicating, and participating in state, regional and national activities.  Maintain regional and national visibility as an ensemble conductor as part of professional development. Advise under-graduate students, perform with faculty brass/woodwind ensemble, serve on departmental committees and perform other university and professional service as appropriate.
