The University of North Carolina Wilmington seeks to fill the position of Assistant Director in Disability Services. The Assistant Director is responsible for working with the Director to: manage day-to-day operations ; assist in the implementation of programmatic and administrative policies and procedures; assist in the preparation and maintenance of the department budget and other program reports/proposals; serve as the designated spokesperson/liaison in the absence of the Director; provide general supervision of Disability Services staff; provide counseling to, and serve as an advocate for, program students; assist in identifying appropriate accommodations as indicated by approved documentation; consult with other university offices; provide the lead regarding assistive technology and web accessibility; and perform all other relevant duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal, oral and written skills, and demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, campus departments, and student groups. The candidate must have a strong knowledge of Federal and State laws and regulations regarding disability issues.
Qualifications: A master’s degree in education, counseling, social work or related fields is required; 2-3 years of experience in a college/university disability service setting is required. A practical knowledge of Assistive Technology and the innovations available for people with disabilities is required. Administrative experience in higher education is preferred.
The position is available as of January 2010. Salary is competitive and the position includes a full benefits package. Initial consideration will be given to applications received by October 16, 2009; however, applications will be accepted until a successful candidate is identified.
