SOAR Ambassador Program
SOAR Ambassadors are carefully selected based on a review of high school academic achievement and standardized test score performance. This scholarship award is the equivalent of UNCW tuition and fees each year, with supplemental awards added towards, books, housing and meals during the sophomore, junior and senior years. In addition to the supplemental awards, SOAR Ambassadors are awarded federal work-study in their junior and senior years so they can earn valuable work experience.
SOAR Ambassadors must maintain a 3.5 GPA cumulative GPA, complete 30 credit hours each year and attend several leadership-oriented workshops throughout the academic year to prepare them with relevant future skills. Additionally, Ambassadors are required to complete group community service projects each year. This scholarship is available for 8 semesters provided the student is able to maintain the required GPA and student professional development activities to include the annual community service project.
SOAR Ambassadors receive the equivalent of in-state tuition and fees each academic year of eligibility. Below is an example of the financial aid award for gift aid. Students may accept student loans if additional funds are needed.

SOAR Ambassadors must meet certain expectations designed to equip them for success while matriculating at UNCW and upon graduation. As such, a number of factors are reviewed in order to select participants with characteristics that lead to the successful completion of the requirements each of the four years. The selection process considers the high school GPA, standardized test scores and content within the admission application, such as participation in community service and extra-curricular activities. All students are considered; however, responses to the questions within the scholarship application help provide insight about your suitability for the program. The minimum eligibility requirements include:
- Completion of current Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Completion of the verification process
- Combined family income of less than 200% of the federal poverty level
SOAR Ambassadors must meet certain expectations designed to equip them for academic success, fiscal responsibility and active engagement within the campus and Wilmington communities. Ambassadors commit to attend monthly program meetings, participate in professional development activities throughout the year and work collaboratively with group members to plan and implement a community service project. Examples of group service projects include: food drive with the regional food bank, soccer clinic and day of play at a local middle school, academic support for youth learning English as a second language, assisting youth with disabilities during sporting events, and cleaning up area parks.

Your donations are greatly appreciated and help us to increase the support for students, faculty, academic programs, research, regional engagement, and global outreach to achieve excellence in all aspects of the UNCW experience.
