UNCW Email Account

Did you know that just by being a student at UNCW you have a free e-mail account?  This account is created seven working days after your intent to enroll has been received. A student's e-mail username will be his/her three initials followed by four random digits.  All students get 40Mb of e-mail space.  Click here for further information about e-mail accounts including how to find out your username and e-mail address as well as how to log into the university e-mail system. To check on the status of your e-mail address you can go to SeaPort.

Why do I need an e-mail address?

It is very important that you check this e-mail on a regular basis, throughout the academic year and even during the summer.  It is the primary means of communication between the financial aid office and the student.

We will send notifications to you when new documents are needed to continue processing your financial aid, and notification that you have been awarded.  These e-mails will tell you to go to SEANET and check your account for this information.

We also send out a monthly mailer to all financial aid applicants.  This gives you important information, reminders and dates for the upcoming month.

How do I access my e-mail?

To access the e-mail server go to this link OWA or enter “https://mail.uncw.edu” in the address box in Internet Explorer.

The interface you will be using is called Outlook Web Access (OWA).   To learn more about OWA click here.

Be sure to logoff when you are finished with each session.  This is for your own security and privacy.

Can I forward my UNCW e-mail to another system?

No, the university is moving toward establishing e-mail as an official means to contact students.  Permitting forwards to other e-mail accounts such as “hotmail” adds a layer of uncertainty with regard to whether a message is actually delivered to the student.

The Financial Aid Office does e-mail some of its information to the e-mail address you provided on the FAFSA, but only if you do not yet have a UNCW e-mail address.

I have more questions.

If you have more questions please see the new students page provided by the Technical Assistance Center.
