ELMS hosts "Response to Instruction and English Language Learners: National, State and Local Issues"
On June 12th, the ELMS (Educating Language Minority Students) hosted a workshop entitled, “Response to Instruction and English Language Learners: National, State and Local Issues.” Approximately 50 people attended either face to face or online. Five speakers addressed issues concerning the implementation of the RtI model with English learners.
Dr. Sylvia Linan-Thompson, from the University of Texas, spoke about how RtI can be integrated into the Core Curriculum State Standards that North Carolina has recently adopted. Amy Jablonski and Ivanna Mann-Thrower presented the new state guidelines for RtI and ELs, and finally Andrea Belletti and Leigh Gates wrapped up the workshop, leading a discussion on the local implementation of RtI.
