The Theatre Department is responsible for creating a climate that supports inclusivity and makes efforts to enhance diversity among students, faculty, staff, and the broader Wilmington community.
Diversity includes, but is not limited to race, sex, age, national origin (including ethnicity), language, religion, disability, neurodivergence, sexual orientation, the spectrum of gender identity and gender expression, veteran’s status and socio-economic status.
Diversity is an educational benefit that enhances the academic experience and fosters a free exchange of ideas from multiple perspectives. We understand that these experiences promote not only the growth of individuals and our community, but also represent the best of the entertainment industry, a field built on the richness of diversity at all levels of practice.
As a department we commit to fostering inclusive excellence for all. We acknowledge that no language is entirely adequate to contain all the complexities of human experience. We also acknowledge that our best intentions do not always lead to best impact.
We will remain accountable to our community and to model transparency in our policies as they are put into action. We therefore commit to an ongoing mindset of growth and humility, self-discovery and evaluation as we seek to decolonize embedded systems and practices of inequity and work to cultivate greater equity and opportunity.
