ITS Increases Virtual Training

To support the needs of our campus during the pandemic, ITS trainers have been working diligently to increase the selection and frequency of courses offered online through the Dare to Learn Academy (D2LA).

  • Since March 16, we have held more than 70 courses with over 870 total participants.
  • Offerings include Microsoft 365 applications such as PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, SharePoint Online and OneDrive.
  • The team is also increasing departmental training sessions for SharePoint Online as part of the campus-wide project to migrate SharePoint 2010 sites to SharePoint Online by October 2020.
  • Feedback from participants is being used to develop new courses such as Advanced SharePoint Online and Mobile Applications for OneDrive, Teams and SharePoint. The team is also developing training for Tasks which will be part of Microsoft’s new and improved project management tool, formerly known as Planner.

Be on the lookout for these offerings and more in the D2LA catalog

The ITS Learning Management System (LMS) team has also been busy training faculty on the use of Canvas, the university’s learning management system. Since mid-March, the LMS team has conducted 138 individual one-on-one faculty trainings and 21 Canvas group trainings (in collaboration with DEeL) with more than 120 faculty participants.

In addition to our instructor-led online training, Skillport computer based training has also been supporting the needs of our campus community.

  • During the past three months (March-May), there have been over 4,200 Skillport course completions and over 1,000 video accesses by faculty, staff and students.
  • The most popular Skillport courses include the UNCW Active Attacker Training for faculty and staff, EEODF training modules and FERPA Awareness for student workers.
  • Check out popular video titles including Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop.

Exciting upgrades are coming to Skillport soon, including new training paths, virtual coding practice labs and an upgrade to a more modern platform. Stay tuned!
