Kudos to ITS Employees Receiving the Long Leaf Pine Awards

The Order of the Long Leaf Pine was created in 1963 and is awarded to residents who have provided “exemplary service to the State of North Carolina and their communities that is above and beyond the call of duty and which has made a significant impact and strengthened North Carolina,” according to the award’s website. This is the highest civilian honor granted by the governor of the State of North Carolina.

Notable recipients have included poet Maya Angelou, NBA Hall of Famer and Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan, talk show host Oprah Winfrey, actor Andy Griffith and civil rights leader Coretta Scott King, wife of Martin Luther King Jr. Recently, the award was bestowed upon Dale Earnhardt Jr.

ITS is pleased to announce that ITS staff members have been recommended for this prestigious award, and the Governor has conferred the Order of the Long Leaf Pine award upon them.

The recipients are (left to right in photo):

  • Steve Swart – 30 years of service
  • Dana Ward – 32 years of service
  • Don Sloan – 37 years of service
  • Ellen Gurganious – 33 years of service
  • Jeff Hunnicutt – 32 years of service
