Gold Talon Office with Sustainability leaf

We spend a lot of time in our "office." Whether that is a shared space, a home office, or a traditional set-up, there are steps that can be taken to be more sustainable.

By filling out the Gold Talon Office Form on the right sidebar, you can see that many credits can help you achieve Participant (blue), Steward (teal), or Champion (gold) status. Each credit is assigned a numerical value depending on its total impact. For example, turning off electronics when not in use will gain you one point, while using power strips to turn off all appliances over the weekend and breaks easily will gain you four points. If you would like to see the values, we will share the spreadsheet with you.

Once you have filled out the Form, your office status is based on the percentage of points the office is collecting compared to the total possible points. Therefore, credits that are not relevant to your office will not count against you. For example, if you do not have a kitchen, those points will not count for or against you.

How We Can Help

UNCW Sustainability can provide several resources to help you gain Gold Talon status.

  • The Sustainability Peer Educators can present to your officemates the importance of taking these actions.
  • We can offer to find alternatives for non-sustainable items that are affordable.
  • You can apply for a TGIF Mini-Grant to make purchases for sustainable technology or items that will forward the mission for the campus at large.
