What is human capital?

Human Capital is a measure of the education background and intelligence, qualifications and experience, leadership and social skills, creativity and overall health possessed by an individual or population that make them an asset to the community, including employers.  A basic tenet of human capital theory is that individuals will be motivated to invest in education and training that is necessary to improve their position.  An investment in human capital also is associated with quality of life.  By providing aspirational STEM learning opportunities, the STEM LC encourages participants to make this investment.
