Transient Study Form
Education Abroad Advising Agreement and Permit for Transient Study
The type of credit you will receive is determined by meeting with the appropriate academic chair and completion of the Transient Study Form (PDF). All students who study abroad and take classes that are not taught by a UNCW faculty member must complete a Transient Study Form (TSF) prior to departure. This form denotes exactly how specific classes taken abroad will transfer back to UNCW.
Transient Study Form Instructions
Transient Study Form Instructions:
1. Fill out the personal and program information at the top portion of the page.
The "University providing transcript" is the university you will attend abroad.
2. Fill in all the courses you plan to take abroad in the left column of the form. It is advised to obtain approval for additional courses as backups in case you need to make changes to your enrollment.
All Language and Business courses must be re-evaluated and included on the TSF, even if already included in the Transfer Articulation Database.
If a course is prearticulated, but you are seeking alternative credit, you will need to work with the appropriate department chair for alternate credit approval.
For courses that are pre-approved, add the preapproved courses on the right hand side and put "preapproved" in the dept chair signature box.
If you are seeking only general elective credit for the course(s) you will take abroad, you can add "General Elective Credit" in the right column and our Director can sign as the department chair.
4. For all the rest of the courses, you'll need to send it to the appropriate UNCW department chair and they will fill out the UNCW equivalent course for you. You will need to provide Department Chairs with a course description/syllabus to evaluate equivalency credit.
5. Once all classes have been entered and all department chair signatures are complete, send the form to your academic advisor to sign on line 1. No need for a signature on Line 2.
The WES grading scale is currently-used for conversion of grades for classes taken while studying abroad, for purposes of transferring credit back to UNCW on approved education abroad programs.
Please note that UNCW current regulations for education abroad on approved programs state that transfer credit may only be received for any/all classes taken abroad, and listed on a foreign university transcript, in which the student receives the equivalent of a C or better at UNCW.
The guidelines at this link will tell you what grades you must achieve in your host country in order to receive the equivalent of a C or better.
