Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUB)

UNCW's Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) Program aims to recruit, educate and interact with minority and women-owned businesses to encourage opportunities to do business with the Office of Facilities. 

UNCW encourages its staff and contractors to commit to conducting good faith efforts to achieve a goal of 10% minority business participation on projects. This includes architectural or engineering design services, construction services, other professional services and the procurement of goods or equipment for projects. The university has established a set of guidelines to increase HUB participation on its construction projects.

What Is a HUB?

A Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) is a business in which at least 51% of the business is owned and operated by one or more of the following minority persons:

  • Black
  • Hispanic
  • Asian American
  • American Indian
  • Female
  • Disabled
  • Socially and economically disadvantaged, as defined in 15 U.S.C. 637

*Must be U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

Becoming HUB Certified

Search for HUB-Certified Vendor

The North Carolina Office of Historically Underutilized Businesses'  maintains an online database of HUB vendors by company or contact name. You can search by commodity or construction code in specific counties to find a HUB vendor with your required skills, or near your area. Visit the HUB-Certified Vendor Search Tool to learn more.
