Minutes approved for July

Welcome

Chair’s Update:

  • Staff Assembly Update
State budget update-Mark Lanier-will probably be another couple of weeks after Labor Day before we have one-have agreed on state emp salaries-LSI – LMAR-there will be one-trying to reach agreement on tax cuts for everyone-wants triggers in place if going to affect negatively as a whole-we should be happy once the final budget is approved

    • LSI-legislative salary increase
      LMAR-labor market adjustment rate

  • Career Banding
    • Salaries-consulting group hired to review- that is finalized, been through HR, on HR campuses now to be approved- then will roll out.
      • Does this mean anything for existing employees or just new hires? Could for both
      • Does any of this they’re looking at consider cost of living? My understanding is that is part of the formula
      • Is there data on retaining employees vs recruiting? retention fund set up at system level and our campus-we’re asking for more info to get drilled down data on why employees left (at the Assembly level)
      • SHRA/EHRA Conversion-each campus has ability to navigate that on their own campus
      • Benefits of the conversion? We are an at-will state-our campus has more flexibility and control-more about us having control over it-ability to do pay adjustments

  • Renovations on campus? Cameron, Kenan Auditorium, and Deloatch Hall

  • Faculty awards-J. Marshall Crews distinguished faculty award deadline is Sunday, Aug 20 - $500 to the recipient

  • Meeting with Leadership

Human Resources Report:

    • Vanity plate $15 available through portal

    • Burney lot-white gates coming down? Dubs area-there are spaces
    • Raises effecting parking-going from flat rate to tiered rate-Chapel Hill and UNCW only ones that went into tiered system
    • Chapel Hill has 3 tier system
    • Flat rate-UNCW was lowest-Greensboro next
    • All regulated through BOT-Staff Senate has to agree with Faculty Senate
    • Can we change it?yes, it will be a big task-in my opinion we are in the best place now
    • Auxiliary Services is self-funded
    • Permits paid on 10-month basis instead of 12 months-originated with faculty-who most work 9-10 month contracts-decision made to move to the 10 month pay period-implemented a phased approach over 4 yrs-gone up $1/month to reach the full permit amount-2025 we will reach the full Permit amount
    • Suggestion box-future retirees need to follow same protocol to receive a permit for free
    • Reserved spots-they pay extra for those-can anyone get one or certain criteria? Chancellor/VCs/Directors
    • 9,660 parking spaces
