Storm Surge Protectors offers citizen scientists the opportunity to become certified Storm Surge Protectors (SSP).
If citizen scientists successfully complete the required protocol to become a certified SSP, they will receive a signed certificate stating they are a certified Storm Surge Protector, as well as a SSP t-shirt.
Certification Guidelines
In order to become a certified SSP all requirements below must be completed and the Coastal Citizen Science Ambassador must be informed that all requirements are complete.
Certified Storm Surge Protectors Requirements
- Complete 10 SSP wetland assessments
- Submit all data on the SSP online data form
- Name and email is included on SSP data form
- Email Coastal Citizen Science Ambassador all requirements have been met
Rules to become a Certified Storm Surge Protector
- Must have attended an official Storm Surge Protectors workshop
- Can only conduct 1 wetland assessment per site, per day
- Must conduct wetland assessments at a minimum of two different SSP sites
- All data sheets must include a “Shoreline Snapshot” of the site
- All data sheets must be filled out correctly
- All data sheets must include the name and email of the citizen scientist who is made the request to become a Certified Storm Surge Protector
