Museum Board Announces New Members and Officers
July 17, 2024 - The Cape Fear Museum honored retiring board members and elected officers and six new members at its annual meeting. Dr. Stuart Borrett, Associate Provost for Research and Innovation, has been appointed to serve a three-year term on the Associates Board. He previously served six years on the Cape Fear Museum Advisory Board. Dr. Karl Ricanek (Professor, Computer Science) has retired from the board after six years of active service, and Dr. Toni Pence (Chair and Associate Professor, Computer Science) will serve as vice president for the coming year. Retirement Reception Planned for Leanne Prete Celebrating 30 Years of Service
July 12, 2024 - Research and Innovation announced that a retirement celebration for Leanne Prete, Director of the Research Integrity Office will take place on Friday, August 30 from 2-4 PM at Clock Tower Lounge. Lee's history with UNCW spans 30 years of service. Light fare and soft drinks will be provided.
UNCW Selected as One of Three FY25 UNC ROI Awardees
July 2, 2024 - The UNC System Research Opportunities Initiative is funded by the North Carolina General Assembly to support some of the most innovative and important research projects within the UNC System. Awards are designed to build capacity in "game-changing research" in strategic areas important to North Carolina. "Transect Expedition to Assess Land-To-Sea Habitats Via Interdisciplinary Process Studies (TEAL-SHIPS)," led by Dr. Bradley Tolar (Assistant Professor, Biology and Marine Biology), is one of three FY25 awardees. Partner institutions include East Carolina University, North Carolina State University, and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Justine Reel Named Interim APRI
June 25, 2024 - Provost James Winebrake announced today that Dr. Justine Reel has accepted the role of Interim Associate Provost for Research and Innovation for the 2024-2025 academic year, effective August 1st, following an internal call for statements of interest. Dr. Reel brings over 19 years of administrative experience from a variety of institutions to this position, including her current role as the College of Health and Human Services’ (CHHS) Associate Dean for Research and Innovation and Professor since 2014 and previous interim appointments as CHHS Dean and Sponsored Programs and Research Compliance Director. Her experience and knowledge of UNCW position her to provide strong leadership for the university’s research and innovation enterprise while supporting the great work and initiatives of the seven reporting units.
Stuart Borrett Appointed Program Director for NSF
May 20, 2024 - Provost James Winebrake announced today that Dr. Stuart Borrett, associate provost for Research and Innovation, has been offered a one-year rotating program director position at the National Science Foundation (NSF). In this role, he will contribute to the national research and development enterprise, gain insights into NSF operations and research administration across the nation, and bring these valuable experiences back to UNCW. This is a significant opportunity, and we are thrilled for Dr. Borrett as he embarks on this new journey. His dedication and contributions to our university have been invaluable, and we are confident that he will bring the same level of commitment and expertise to the NSF for the next year.
