Brian D. Williamson
Lecturer
Brian has enjoyed the opportunity to serve southeastern North Carolina in the field of Social Work since graduating with an MSW in 2007, working for several years in treatment and recovery for chemical dependency and addiction in an inpatient setting before transitioning to outpatient therapy as an individual practitioner at Delta Behavioral Health. Brian started his journey into academia by teaching Substance Abuse Counseling courses at Cape Fear Community college, and became a part-time faculty member in the School of Social Work at UNCW in 2013. As a part-time faculty member, he enjoyed the opportunity to help develop and teach a specialized section in the SSW based on addiction, treatment and recovery, which has blossomed into an advanced certificate program that graduate students can earn in their pursuit of Addictions licensure. Brian also taught 1st-year seminar for several years in assisting incoming freshman in their transition into collegiate lifestyle and academics. Brian became a full-time lecturer in the fall of 2024 and continues work in the community on the outpatient therapy and clinical supervision level.
