Mary White
Professor
Mary Jo White, Professor of Flute and Theory at UNCW, and principal flutist of the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra and Opera Wilmington, teaches flute and freshman level theory and aural skills. Previously, she taught at Central Michigan University, Truman State University and Boston College, and was the principal flute for the Alma and Traverse City Symphonies, and second flute/piccolo for the Lansing Symphony. A winner of the 2006 National Flute Association Performer’s Competition, she has performed at the NFA conventions in 2006, 2016 and 2018. A proponent of modern chamber music, Dr. White has also performed at the National College Music Society conventions in 2005 and 2016. In fall 2008, Dr. White recorded the complete solo flute works of Benjamin Boone on her CD: Flute, Naturally. Most recently she has released a new CD with harpist, Christina Brier: Available Light: Modern Music for Flute and Harp.
