Angelena M. Vandenberg
Field Education Coord/Lecturer
Angie Vandenberg, been a social worker for over 20 years, specializing in supporting survivors of interpersonal violence. Her journey began at UNC Wilmington, where she earned her BSW in 2005—along with a degree in Art History. During that time, she had the privilege of interning and later working at the local Rape Crisis Center, an experience that profoundly shaped her path and continues to inspire her volunteer work with the organization today.
After completing her MSW at UNC Charlotte, Angie worked at an agency that housed both a Rape Crisis Center and a Child Advocacy Center. There, she provided trauma-informed therapy, play therapy, and expressive arts interventions to children and adults impacted by trauma. She has received clinical training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Brainspotting.
Angie serves as the Field Education Coordinator for the School of Social Work. In this role, she is honored to help guide and support the next generation of social workers as they embark on their own field education journeys—an experience she knows firsthand can be truly transformative. Angie is deeply committed to building strong relationships with community partners and feels grateful every day to work in a region she genuinely loves.

Her service work is driven by a strong commitment to supporting survivors of interpersonal violence and contributing to disaster recovery efforts, areas in which she has both personal passion and professional experience.
