Kathryn Sausman

Research Specialist

Kate Sausman is a Research Specialist managing the Translational Medicine Lab (TML) for Dr. McCall and Dr. Minns in the School of Nursing since 2018. It is her job to help coordinate and execute research projects between the TML PIs and other cross-disciplinary researchers. The Translational Medicine Lab is run by immunology researchers, and their work has focused around human immune response to pollutants, toxins, and drug candidates. These themes have led to heavy collaborations with PIs at the Center for Marine Science, where the Translational Medicine Lab is located. Kate supervises and trains students exploring different methods of bioassays, such as ELISAs, flow cytometry, cytotoxicity and more. She is also responsible for the day to day functionality of the lab, ensuring grant supplies is ordered and accounted for, generating data for the next grant submission or scientific publication, ensuring compliance with EHS, and implementing new equipment and assays for human health scientific exploration.
