Jodi M. Protokowicz
Clinical Assistant Professor
Dr. Protokowicz began her nursing career as a bedside labor and delivery nurse. Over time, she realized she has a passion for teaching and slowly transitioned away from the bedside and into academics full time. She is originally from the Baltimore area but has had the good fortune to teach nursing in the Caribbean, on the island of St. Thomas, before relocating to Wilmington to teach at the University of North Carolina - Wilmington. She has had several article published, been a speaker at a national conference, given presentations and a variety of conferences and has had her research funded.

Specialization in Teaching
Dr. Protokowicz has taught at many levels of nursing education from the Associate's degree through the Master's degree. She has taught in the classroom, clinical setting, online, as well as the simulation lab. SCurrently she teaches in the Masters in Nursing education program and is a course coordinator. he is Quality Matters certified and has a certificate in Information Literacy.
Research Interests
Dr. Protokowicz has 2 main areas of research interest. The first being high risk pregnancies, specifically pre-eclampsia. Her second and most recent area of interest is nursing education and improving outcomes in nursing education.
Professional Service
Dr. Protokowicz dedicates time to professional service within the University of North Carolina Wilmington but also within the nursing community in general. In the School of nursing, Dr. Protokowicz has participated in many committees, been the chair of a search committee and was a member of the university's faculty senate. Outside of the University of North Carolina Wilmington, she has been an expert witness in the Maryland state legislature and sits on a community board.
Community Engagement
Dr. Protokowicz has been active withing her local community and enjoys spending time with a wide variety of community members. She has been a faculty lead when taking students into the community for Covid 19 vaccine clinics. She has supported the medical tent at several events on the University of North Carolina campus and participated in the Life Rolls On event in Carolina beach.
