Wesley K Porter

Executive Assistant

Wesley (Wes) K. Porter is a proud alumnus of the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After years of clinical practice, he returned to UNCW to serve as the Executive Assistant for Community Engagement & Health Equity in the College of Health & Human Services (CHHS). Wes plays a central role in facilitating campus-community partnerships, co-creating applied learning opportunities, and guiding programs focused on health equity and professional development. He also teaches part-time, bringing his interdisciplinary expertise to courses in global public health and healthy aging through the Blue Zones Project. Passionate about educational access and community empowerment, Wes is currently pursuing his Master of Healthcare Administration with a vision to blend nursing, public health, and community-based practice to impact systemic health outcomes.

Professional Service

Wes contributes extensively to the infrastructure of CHHS through administrative coordination, strategic planning, and process improvement. He leads campus initiatives such as staff development programming, diversity education events, and collaborative grant-based projects. As Chair of the Staff Senate Engagement Committee, Wes develops campus-wide engagement opportunities and partnerships that build staff morale and foster cross-unit collaboration.

Community Engagement

Wes is deeply committed to meaningful, reciprocal engagement. He works with community organizations to co-design student learning experiences that respond to community-identified needs, and he provides logistical and administrative support for public-facing programming. His leadership has helped launch summits, wellness events, and service-learning opportunities that align university resources with grassroots health and social justice initiatives.
