David A. Pernell

David Pernell brings over a decade of experience in media production and advanced communication courses to his role as a senior lecturer. His background in media production has been instrumental in shaping his innovative teaching methods and curriculum enhancements, significantly boosting student engagement and performance.

David's career in media production began as a Production Technician at WECT, where he directed weekend newscasts and operated production equipment, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime. He then advanced to the role of News Production Supervisor at News 14 Carolina, where he led a news production team, optimized workflows, and maintained high standards for news content.

At UNCW, David utilizes his practical knowledge to develop and teach courses such as Multimedia Journalism, Studio Video Production, Media Production and Media Law and Ethics. His hands-on approach and real-world insights provide students with a comprehensive understanding of media production processes, preparing them for successful careers in the industry.
