Laurie Patterson

Dr. Laurie J Patterson is a professor in the Department of Computer Science and the Program in Information Technology. She is also the Associate Dean for the College of Science and Engineering Academic Affairs and Curriculum at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
She received her Ed.D. degree in Computing and Information Technology from Nova Southeastern University. Her M.Ed. in computer training and development, B.A. in Biology, and her Associate of Liberal Arts (A.L.A.) from the University of Minnesota.
Her research has focused on technology, education, gender, and the music and lyrics of the Tin Pan Alley era. She has served as a Co-Pi on grants from NSF and the DoD, focusing on women in academia or cybersecurity education.

Research Interests
Research has included technology education, gender and technology, leadership, text messaging, and the arts and media. The latter has resulted in artistic presentations and publication on the music and lyrics from the Great American Songbook era.
