Anna Pagnucci

Temporary EHRA/Faculty

Anna Pagnucci builds surfaces creating a rich, velvety quality that merges layers of enamel paint, vibrant inks, and stenciled forms. She develops mystery where you both see on and into abstracted forms which are tree-based, evoking branching systems, roots, and growth with hints of hidden figures, buildings, walls, and gates. These motifs serve as metaphors for both personal and collective histories meant to trigger her audience’s buried memories making instinctive connections to luoghi (places). Our bodies recognize our ancestral home on a visceral level and we touch those memories through abstracted colors and textures. Pagnucci is veteran Art professor with 18 years of teaching experience including being Associate Professor and Art Dept. Chair at Mount St. Clare University and Coastal Carolina College faculty. She currently teaches for UNCW, NOVA, EICC and Mount Olive University. Group exhibitions included Cameron Art Museum in NC, The Figge Art Museum in IA, and The Sawmill Museum in IA. Awards received include People’s Choice at Augustana Museum of Art, IL, and a purchase award for Hayward Memorial, WI. She was a Make It Break It! grant recipient for the Des Moines Modern and Contemporary Art Museum in Iowa. Prestigious solo exhibitions include Simpson College, IA and Black Hawk College, IL. And her artwork has been published as covers/illustrations in Shakespearean Zombie Sonnets (2018) and Zombie Apocalypse (2016), McFarland Press; and Firstborn (2016), Tracks on Damp Sand (2015) and Breath of the Onion (2014), North Star Press, St. Cloud MN.
