Erica C. Noles
Senior Lecturer
After receiving my B.A. and M.A. from UNCW, I was excited to return as faculty in 2014. As an NC native who thrived at UNCW, it was my goal to return to campus and be an educator. Social psychology and discrimination are the topics that drew me to psychology, and I remain fascinated by the question of why social categories evoke such strong thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in humans. When I am not teaching, I enjoy running, scuba diving, and traveling.
Education
B.A. in Psychology, University of North Carolina Wilmington
M.A. in Psychology, University of North Carolina Wilmington
Ph.D. in Psychology, University of Nevada, Las Vegas
Specialization in Teaching
I focus on helping students think more critically and broadly about topics in social and personality psychology. My doctoral training in the development of social categorization also helped me appreciate the longitudinal nature of the human experience and the importance of scientific rigor. My courses involve students in the learning process through research, discussions, and presentations. I am also currently exploring the role of AI in the classroom. I am focused on designing new ways to use AI as a tutor and assistant to enhance the learning experience. In addition to teaching our Capstone course in Advanced Social and Personality Psychology, I often teach Introductory Psychology. I love opening students' eyes to the field of psychology and the many ways that psychologists work to improve the world. Additionally, I have worked closely with the Honors College and enjoy helping Honors students maximize their time at UNCW.
Research Interests
In my role as a senior lecturer, I don't conduct formal research. I guide student research in my Capstone course.
