Kahla T. Nelson

Kahla has been a member of the English Language Center at UNCW for six years. She began her teaching career in the New York City Public Schools, where she taught secondary English as an Additional Language (EAL). She then spent over 20 years in Asia, raising her family and teaching secondary EAL in three international schools: Island School in Hong Kong, Dulwich College in Suzhou, China, and Regents International School in Pattaya, Thailand.
Kahla holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chinese and Sociology and a Master’s degree in International Education Development with TESOL concentration. Her professional interests include integrating wellbeing practices and awareness training into the daily curriculum and ensuring that these approaches are accessible to learners at all levels. She is also a certified yoga and mindfulness teacher.
