Len Lecci

Professor

Dr. Lecci is a professor of psychology who has been at UNCW since 1996. His training is in clinical psychology and assessment, and his research, teaching, and clinical work emphasize assessment in a wide range of contexts.

Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, Arizona State University

Specialization in Teaching

Dr. Lecci teaches the assessment sequence in the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program and supervises the assessment practicum. Undergraduate teaching focuses on personality psychology and health psychology.

Research Interests

Dr. Lecci is involved in a number of research areas, each of which emphasize assessment. As an example, one area of research focuses on more effectively assessing the neurocognitive and neurobehavioral sequelae of concussion (mild traumatic brain injuries; mTBI). This research involves validating new measures, using mobile technology to make concussion assessments more widely available, and identifying normative differences in baseline scores and recovery trajectories based on demographics such as age, gender, and race. Research also examines the characteristics of those who feign mTBI, and other related conditions. Other areas of interest include the more effective assessment of juror biases in criminal cases and health-related behaviors and attidues.

Professional Service

Dr. Lecci has served as an associate editor for the Journal of Pediatric Neuropsychology, he reviews articles for numerous other journals, has served on the Board of Directors for the eastern NC chapter of the Alzheimer's Association and the Board for the Dementia Alliance of NC. Dr. Lecci is the Director of Clinical Services at MARS Memory-Health Network, which is a center that specializes in the early dtection of memory problems.

Community Engagement

Dr. Lecci gives numerous talks on a wide range range of topics related to preserving brain health.
