Trevor L LaClair

Trevor LaClair brings more than a decade of experience in higher education, international programming, and student support to his role at UNCW. He has worked extensively in academic advising, language education, and cross-cultural engagement—both in the United States and abroad. Prior to joining UNCW, Trevor served as owner and head teacher of his own English language school in Japan, where he developed curriculum, advised students on educational pathways, and built long-term community partnerships. Previously, he held roles in graduate academic advising and communication instruction at Hawai‘i Pacific University.

With a background in communication, media, and intercultural learning, Trevor is committed to fostering environments where students feel supported, challenged, and empowered to pursue meaningful academic and personal growth. His advising philosophy emphasizes individualized guidance, reflective decision-making, and helping students connect their studies to larger vocational, global, and humanistic perspectives.

Trevor holds a Master of Arts in Communication with a concentration in Media and Culture and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Business. His professional interests include international education, student transitions, mentorship, and holistic development in higher education.
