Dr. Chelsea Keane (she/her) is an Assistant Professor in the English Department. Her research focuses on premodern literature (medieval and early modern literature), environmental humanities, media and film studies, and science fiction studies.

Education

Ph.D in English - University of California, Riverside
M.A. in English and Creative Fiction - New York University
B.A. in English with a Concentration in Creative Writing - University of California, Davis

Specialization in Teaching

Dr. Keane's classes usually address a capacious range of literary texts, in order to both help students understand literary works (broadly conceived) in their unique cultural context as well as their transhistorical legacies. Classes she has taught or will teach in the department include:

Research Interests

While Dr. Keane works primarily within medieval and early modern literature, her research in medievalism and environmental humanities and environmental theory make her research scope broad and interdisciplinary. Her ongoing projects touch on fields like blue humanities, depth studies, science fiction and fantasy studies, film studies, and more.
