Kathleen M Huber
Administrative Associate
Kathy's career started in Miami, Florida working in the cruise industry. From there, she relocated to San Francisco, CA working for another cruise line. Life took her to Washington, DC where she joined the Capitol Hill Hyatt Hotel for 5 years as a front desk manager and concierge. From there she moved to Cleveland, OH where she spent the next 10 years working as registration and housing meeting planner for an international travel company. Lured away by a client, she moved to Durham, NC for 10 years to work at a non-profit on their meeting planning team. Following her dream to live near the ocean, she relocated to Wilmington, NC where she had her own business running a consignment art gallery, while working at CFCC as the Administrative Assistant to the Nursing Department. The desire to work at UNCW ultimately was made possible by joining the incredible School of Social Work in August of 2021 as the Administrative Associate.
Community Engagement
Kathy planned and organized the first ever "Be Kind to Your Mind" Mental Health Festival and Fundraiser. With over 15 community mental health providers, 15 local artists showcasing their creations, live music, food and raffles, this event was created to destigmatize asking for help and showing the community the resources that are available to them. Students and faculty from the School of Social Work volunteered to assist with this event and were on site to help and answer questions. This event was held in March during Social Work Month, and due to the success of it, will be offered again next March.
