Miran Hossain
Associate Professor
Dr. Hossain teaches Corporate Finance in the MBA and MS Finance programs, as well as Equity Investments in the MSF program. He joined UNCW in Fall 2018 after earning his Ph.D. in Finance from Florida Atlantic University, where he also taught corporate finance, financial modeling, financial institutions, and investment analysis for three years. Dr. Hossain’s primary research interests lie in empirical corporate finance, with a particular focus on the role of social networks in shaping corporate financial policies. His research also spans topics related to real estate, financial analysts, and mutual funds. His work has been published in leading academic journals, including Journal of Corporate Finance, British Accounting Review, Journal of Financial Research, International Review of Financial Analysis, International Journal of Managerial Finance, Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting, and Managerial Finance. In addition to his academic experience, Dr. Hossain holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and brings practical expertise in financial modeling and project appraisal for large infrastructure and renewable energy financing. Before transitioning to academia, he spent five years in the banking industry. Born and raised in Dhaka, Bangladesh, Dr. Hossain holds an MSBA in Financial Risk Management from Colorado State University and a BBA from North South University. Outside of work, he is an avid photographer and enjoys traveling, playing cricket, badminton, and table tennis.
