Julie F. Hinkle

Julie F. Hinkle, PhD, RN, CNE has been a faculty member at UNCW since 2017. Dr. Hinkle’s work is rooted in innovative nursing education with a focus on adaptive learning platforms. Her research includes the personalization of nursing curricula through technology, as demonstrated in her recent publications on adaptive case studies and telehealth simulations in graduate nursing education. She more recently has leveraged AI to improve learning outcomes in graduate pathophysiology and is currently developing a course on AI in Healthcare. She has co-led multiple projects, including the development of an adaptive learning-based online Pathophysiology course. Her current funded research project focuses on improving access to resources by vulnerable populations in SE North Carolina using innovative technologies.
Dr. Hinkle has also played a pivotal role in nursing curriculum development at UNCW, contributing to the redesign of the prelicensure and DNP programs as well as the development of the new accelerated BSN program starting in summer 2025. A recognized leader in nursing education, she has presented her work at national conferences such as the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, Online Learning Consortium and American Psychiatric Nurses Association, where she addressed critical issues like student engagement and the impact of natural disasters on nursing students.
Her dedication extends beyond academia through her leadership in professional organizations, including serving as the past president of the North Carolina League for Nursing. In 2022, she received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Faculty for her commitment to student success.
