Allison Harris is an Assistant Professor of English. She is a child of the South, having traversed Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina, with roots in Alabama and Arkansas. Harris's work explores race and place, especially through the US South, Appalachia, and the Caribbean, emphasizing the cross-racial solidarity of resistance in these regions. Her MELUS essay “Indian Removal and the Plantation South: Cherokee Present-Absence in Three Neo-Slave Narratives” was awarded the 1921 Prize by the American Literature Society.
