Angel B Garcia
Precollege Mentoring Program Director
Angel Garcia is an educator and community engagement leader with nearly 20 years of experience in higher education. His goal is to advance student success through access, peer mentorship and inclusive leadership. He currently serves as Director of Precollege Mentoring Program at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where he provides strategic direction and day-to-day leadership for a comprehensive precollege mentoring initiative supporting high school students, college mentors, and families across the Southeastern region of North Carolina.
At the core of Angel’s leadership is a deep belief in the power of mentorship, storytelling, and critical hope. He teaches students to see their voices as their most powerful tool, one that can open doors, challenge systems, and reshape their futures. His work encourages students not to settle for what is merely “passing,” but to dream boldly, strive for excellence, and continuously remake themselves. Angel believes that if an opportunity does not exist, it can be created, and if something isn’t working, it is worth reimagining until it does.Through student-centered mentorship, family engagement, and evidence-based practice, Angel helps students trust the process, persist through challenges, and never give up on their potential. His leadership is rooted in the conviction that education is not just about access, but about empowerment, dignity, and possibility.
