Prosper Bangwayo-Skeete

Professor

Dr. Prosper Bangwayo-Skeete is a Professor of Economics in the Cameron School of Business, University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW). She brings over 15 years of international experience in academia and research and is recognized among the Top 70 Black Academic Economists in the U.S. Dr. Skeete’s research spans international trade, tourism economics, sustainability, social economics, and applied macroeconomics. Her work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed international journals and has garnered over 1,000 citations. She gained international recognition with her groundbreaking 2015 paper, “Can Google data improve the forecasting performance of tourist arrivals? Mixed-data sampling approach”.

Her academic footprint spans across Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, and the Americas. Notably, she previously held the Senior Lecturer position at the University of West Indies in Barbados, where she earned teaching awards and deepened her research expertise. She also spent a year at the University of Oxford as an Erasmus PhD. Scholar.

Beyond her scholarly achievements, she is committed to community and institutional service. Dr. Skeete serves as Co-Director of UNCW’s Research Community in International Trade and Exchange (RCITE) and is actively engaged in community discourse, sometimes presenting and moderating discussions on small business developments and socioeconomic policy. She also advises on policymaking as a member of the Socioeconomic Development Committee of NC Project LEAD.
