OSLE Students Smiling

Faculty and Staff Resources

In the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement, we believe every student is capable of practicing leadership because it is not about a position or title; it is about the desire and drive to create positive change.

We offer several opportunities that equip students with the skills and tools needed to successfully practice leadership on campus and in the community, many of which can be included in your course or training.

What OSLE has to offer Faculty and Staff:

Leadership Workshop Facilitation:

We facilitate workshops that focus on a variety of topics, including Emotionally Intelligent Leadership, CliftonStrengths/StrengthsFinder, Defining Leadership, Group Dynamics and more. You can request a workshop by filling out the form on our website.

The Seahawk Leadership Conference:

Including this annual event as a course requirement or option is a great way to take advantage of a student-led, professionally facilitated conference that includes Seahawk Talks (our version of Ted Talks), breakout sessions, and small group discussion around a variety of leadership topics.

Community Connections:

We coordinate a variety of volunteer opportunities on and off campus that are open to all students, and we welcome faculty and staff to include them in their curriculum. If you dont see something that meets your needs, contact us and we are happy to help connect you to the right community organization.

Civic Action and Education:

We host sessions on a variety of topics, including Election 101 and Civically Engaged Leadership, and provide education about various social issues. You can request a workshop by filling out the form on our website.

Hunger Help:

We support Hawks Harvest – UNCWs student food pantry – by recruiting volunteers, promoting the need for donations, and helping to advertise the resource to students, staff, and faculty. Please help us spread the word to students about Hawks Harvest – it is open to all students, and is in a convenient (yet discreet) location close to campus. You can even download and print your own pantry flyers for your office from our website!

Advisement of Fraternity and Sorority Life:

We advise the 30+ chapters that fall under the four governing councils on campus. If you see/hear something that concerns you, or that you believe deserves recognition, please let us know so we can address it as appropriate. If you are interested in serving as an advisor, or facilitating a workshop or training session for the community, please email us at engage@uncw.edu

Celebration of Students:

We celebrate studentsaccomplishments both inside and outside of the classroom through our annual awards programs including The Dub Awards (for student organizations/fraternities and sororities), the Cornerstone Awards (honoring scholarship and award recipients), and Senior Excellence (recognizes outstanding graduates). The call for nominations goes out each November and are due in late January. Please consider nominating worthy students when the time comes!
