Excellence in eLearning Award

The Excellence in eLearning award recognizes faculty members for outstanding online course design. Winners are selected by a committee of volunteer faculty reviewers. Courses are rated using the Quality Matters rubric. Faculty members are encouraged to nominate a course or volunteer to be a course reviewer.

    Call For Nominations
    Call for Nominations: November 2020 - February 5th, 2021
    Nomination Deadline: February 5th, 2021
    Nominees Notified to Prepare Materials: February 8th, 2021
    Call for Volunteer Reviewers: February 9th, 2021 - February 26th, 2021
    Material Submission Deadline: March 4th, 2021
    Reviewer Training: March 5th, 2021
    Nominee Review: March - May 31st, 2021
    Award Presented: Fall 2021 Faculty Meeting
  • Call for Nominations and Faculty Reviewers

    Faculty members with nominated courses must complete a course worksheet that will confirm your nomination and provide reviewers with important information about your course. Nominated faculty are also encouraged to complete a self-review of their course prior to the Material Submission Deadline.  Distance Education and eLearning will provide all nominated faculty with the worksheet and instructions for accessing the self-review tool no later than February 8th, 2021. 

    Each course nominated will be reviewed by 2 - 4 faculty members. Distance Education and eLearning will compile the results and announce the winner at the beginning of each Fall semester. Please note, faculty who have been awarded the Excellence and eLearning Award in the past 3 years are ineligible to receive the award in this cycle.

    DEeL staff will conduct training on the Quality Matters rubric for volunteer faculty reviewers. Each faculty reviewer will be assigned 1 - 2 courses to evaluate, depending on how many courses are nominated. The reviewers will have approximately 2 months to complete the evaluation.

  • Nature of Award and Recognition

    The purpose of this award is to recognize excellence in online and web-enhanced course design. There shall be one Excellence in eLearning award recipient each year. Announcement and presentation of the award will be made at the Fall Faculty meeting.

    The recipient of the Excellence in eLearning Award will receive a medallion, plaque, and campus-wide recognition. 

  • Procedures for Nomination and Selection

    Please submit nominations via email to elearning@uncw.edu by February 5th, 2021.

    Any faculty member may nominate another faculty member or themselves by sending a letter of recommendation to elearning@uncw.edu stating the basis for his/her nomination based on the following requirements:

    1. Full-time or part-time faculty teaching a fully online or blended course
    2. Tenure or non-tenure track faculty teaching a fully online or blended course
    3. Innovative and/or effective use of instructional technologies
    4. Nominees must submit a course worksheet prior to the material submission deadline.  

    Please note, faculty who have been awarded the Excellence and eLearning Award in the past 3 years are ineligible to receive the award in this cycle.
