PDS Holds Professional Learning Day for Partnership Teachers

More than 50 teachers participated in a professional learning day at the Watson College on October 21. Through the UNCW/3C Collaborative, UNCW partners with community colleges to offer programs, conferences and professional development events for current and future education leaders. 25 Teachers Participate in BT Conference at WCE

On November 4, the Watson College was pleased to welcome 25 beginning teachers for the first of three annual BT Conference Days. The theme of the event was “Beginning Brave.” Leah Carper, North Carolina’s 2022 Teacher of the Year was keynote speaker. Abbey Nobles '14, NC’s SE Regional Teacher of the Year, was also a featured speaker. more...

PDS Hosts Open Forum on NC Pathways to Excellence

On September 19, WCE Dean Van Dempsey and NC DPI’s Julie Pittman facilitated an Open Forum to discuss a new proposal on teacher licensure, evaluation and compensation. A final draft of the proposal will be sent by the Professional Educator Preparation and Standards Commission (PEPSC) to the State Board of Education for consideration later this fall. EOC Network Hosts First Fall Meeting

The Educators of Color Network held their first meeting of the 2022-23 academic year on September 20. More than 150 educators are currently participating in the network, launched earlier this year to build connections, share information and collaborate on programs to increase diversity in the teacher workforce. more...

CESTEM Hosts Workshops for K-12 Teachers

In June, Michelle Hafey and UNCW Randall Library's Alyssa Wharton led a workshop to introduce educators to CESTEM’s new Mobile 3D Printer. More recently, workshops were held to introduce CESTEM’s VR System, provide ways to approach science notebooking to maximize student learning, and share ways Vernier probes and sensors can be used for data collection in the classroom.
